A highly-anticipated rematch between lightweights Eddie Alvarez (22-3 MMA, 6-1 BFC) and Shinya Aoki (30-5 MMA, 0-0 BFC) is expected to take place at Bellator 66.

Both fighters have verbally agree to the fight.

Bellator 66 takes place April 20.  A venue hasn't yet been announced for the event.

The two first met at "Dynamite!!! 2008."  In a bout for the inaugural WAMMA lightweight title, Aoki made quick work of Alvarez and picked up a submission victory via heel hook.

Since the loss, Alvarez ran off seven straight victories (six of which came via stoppage).  During the streak, "The Silent Assassin" captured and defended the Bellator lightweight title.  In his most recent fight, Alvarez was submitted by Michael Chandler in one of the best fights of 2011.  The loss cost him the Bellator lightweight title.

Aoki, meanwhile, has gone 11-2 since the victory.  His only losses came at the hands of MMA legend Hayato Sakurai and highly-ranked Gilbert Melendez.  During his win streak, Aoki captured and defended the DREAM lightweight championship.  In his most recent bout, Aoki extended his current win streak to seven with a decision win over Satoru Kitaoka on New Years Eve last year.

Alvarez vs. Aoki will likely serve as the headliner for the event.
