Shaun White once again proved to be the man to beat in the SuperPipe Sunday night. White finished off the games with a perfect 100.00 score for the first time in SuperPipe history. Combining massive air up over 18 feet, with double cork spins off both walls, White improved on his earlier run score of 94.00, which had already secured him the gold.
White has now won five straight SuperPipe gold medals, and to do so with a perfect score on the last is something incredible. The only reason Shaun missed out on the Slopestyle gold is because he had an ankle injury and didn’t compete. This gold medal makes 12, making him a legend at X Games among others like Mirra and Hibbert.
Iouri Podladtchikov was the closest competitor in the field and placed second, scoring a 93.00, falling just short of Whites original 94.00. However I POD, fell significantly short of White’s final run. Third place was taken by Ryo Aono who reached the podium without even posting a score in the 90’s with an 86.00.
Snowboarding in the Pipe is dominated by one man, Shaun White. His ability to perform tricks that no one else can do creates an uneven playing field and the rest of the competitors are going to need to work especially hard to compete against White in future competitions, at least if they don’t want to compete for second.
