The startling news is just starting to sink in for alot fans and other people in the MMA community as Nick Diaz has been pulled from his championship bout with Georges St. Pierre. After failing to appear at several press conferences, Diaz was absent yet again at today's presser. Needless to say, UFC president Dana White was a little pissed off.
Almost as if he was expecting this, White announced that Carlos Condit would be pulled from his fight with BJ Penn and then released a new promo vid for St. Pierre vs Condit. Diaz had stated weeks before that he wasn't going to play the "PR game" and apparently he really meant it. His coach, Cesar Gracie was eventually contacted. "I agree with you 100%. We're embarrassed, I've been trying to chase Nick around town. No one can find him", he said to Dana White with disappontment in his voice.
"Cesar went to Nick's house and Nick snuck out the backdoor", Dana added.
It remains unclear who will take Condit's spot against Penn and it hasn't been announced whether Diaz will be cut from the UFC roster following the change. One could only hope that Diaz will get another chance and remain with the UFC. The smart move would be to put Diaz in against Penn and let the Cesar Gracie student redeem himself that way.
As for Condit, he and GSP are teammates at Greg Jackoson's gym in Albuquerque, NM. However, he sent a message through an interview about a month ago to his teammates that he is here to fight and will do just that if he had to fight one of them. The former WEC champion will present just as much a threat to GSP as Diaz would and many were in high hopes that Diaz would take the title for the sole reason of seeing Condit and Diaz do battle.
